Make Your Own Practice Clock!

Letโ€™s make a fun clock at home to help you learn how to tell the time! โฐ

This is a super fun craft, and it also helps you understand where the numbers go on a real clock. Donโ€™t worry if it doesnโ€™t look perfect โ€” the most important thing is learning and having fun!

๐ŸŽ’ What You Need:

  • ๐Ÿฅฃ A paper plate or cardboard (like a cereal box)
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Extra cardboard (for the clock hands)
  • ๐ŸŽจ Paint
  • โœ๏ธ Pencil
  • ๐Ÿ“Œ Split pin (paper fastener) or pipe cleaner

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Letโ€™s Make It!

1๏ธโƒฃ Make the Clock Face

Take your paper plate or cut a big circle out of cardboard.
This will be your clock face!

You can paint it any color you like.
Let it dry before moving to the next step.

2๏ธโƒฃ Add the Numbers

Now itโ€™s time to put numbers on your clock!

Let your child try placing the numbers first โ€” this helps them learn.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Start with:

  • 12 at the top
  • 6 at the bottom
  • 3 on the right
  • 9 on the left

These are your โ€œanchor numbers.โ€

Then fill in the other numbers in between.

When youโ€™re happy with the numbers, trace or color them to make them bright and bold! ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ’ก Another fun idea:
Cut out colorful numbers and glue them on once youโ€™re sure theyโ€™re in the right places.

3๏ธโƒฃ Make the Clock Hands

Draw two long strips on cardboard and cut them out.

  • The minute hand should be longer and reach the numbers.
  • The hour hand should be shorter.
  • You can even make the hour hand a little thicker!

Paint them bright colors!

If youโ€™re just starting to learn time:

  • Make the hands different colors.
  • You can even write โ€œHourโ€ and โ€œMinuteโ€ on them.

If you already know your long and short hands well, you can make them the same color like a real clock!

4๏ธโƒฃ Make a Hole in the Middle

Find the center of your clock.
Carefully make a small hole (ask an adult to help).

Make a small hole in both clock hands too.

5๏ธโƒฃ Attach the Hands

Put the split pin through:

  • The hour hand
  • The minute hand
  • The clock face

Open the pin at the back to hold everything in place.

No split pin?
Use a pipe cleaner or twist tie instead!

Make sure the hands can move easily.

๐ŸŽ‰ All Done!

Your learning clock is ready!

Now you can:

  • Practice telling the time
  • Set different times for fun
  • Play โ€œWhat time is it?โ€ games

Learning time is more fun when you make your own clock! ๐Ÿ•’๐Ÿ’›
